Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR/HD Cam
I know this is a skateboard blog but the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II just might change the way photogs and filmers document skateboarding. Not only is this a 21 megapixel still camera but it’s also an HD (1080p) video camera. Check out a sample movie created with this camera after the jump. Canon will sell the body-only for $2,699 or bundled with Canon’s 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens for $3,499

Normally any video capability on a still camera is just an afterthought and the quality of the video is only good enough for youtube. This seems to be different.
Check out this short film shot entirely with the Canon EOS 5D (he got ahold of a prototype) by Vincent Laforet (and $25K worth of lenses). He’s also going to make available the raw clips to crush any doubt that he ‘tweaked’ the film color, tonal, noise, etc. in the video.
The folks over at RED seemed to take notice of this according to engadget. If you remember I blogged about some skate footage shot with a RED camera a little over a week ago here.
This will give those of use who like to take still shots and video a way to do both with just one device–how convenient.
Check out the review of the MarkII over at dpreview.com and don’t forget to get your geek on over at engadget either
